using the merchant can make the game a lot easier. using items in combat does not take your turn

being caught by the horde can result in a game over if you roll poorly.

as in line with the gamejams theme, you are not the main character. combat is done using your caravan members as hitpoints. combat should be avoided as much as possible. as your health drops, so does your damage, so a losing battle can only be salvaged by single use items that deal damage independently of your army,
